La famille vocabulary is something we are reviewing in every class. The children are enjoying learning French words that describe their family members. We learned a couple of fun songs about family members and are practicing family vocabulary using games. Here is the link to our "J'aime papa, j'aime maman" song:
Bonjour! Et Joyeux Printemps!
Lots of things are happening in our French class. We have learned the French alphabet, and are practicing spelling our names and other words in French! Ask your French learner to spell in French for you. Here is the alphabet song we have been listening to:

Le 6 Janvier, c'est la Fête des Rois en France!
We learned in class how children and families celebrate this holiday. Ask your 2nd grader to describe this tradition to you.
We also made a craft / game in the form of a galette. The children are hiding "a fève" inside their galettes.
This week we are making king/queen crowns. We will be wondering what we would do if we could be a king or a queen for the day.
We are learning how to say....
"La galette"
"Je suis le roi!" or "Je sus la reine!"
"Bonne fête!"
"la fève"
"j'ai la fève!"

Bonjour, et Bonne Année!
C'est l'hiver! We are celebrating winter and winter activities in French class. In the month of January, we will be talking about winter weather, winter holidays in France, Canada, and the US. We will also learn how to talk about all those winter clothes we have to put on to go outside, and, of course, all the fun things we can do in the snow.
One of our favorite songs is...
"C'est l'hiver!"

THIS WEEK IN 2ND GRADE...
We are off to a good start! My 2nd grade friends were eager to share their summer adventures and travels abroad. Some of them were able to visit French-speaking countries (!), where they could practice their French skills! Madame Shvets shared her experiences in Nova Scotia, Canada!
This past week, we have been reviewing our greetings, numbers, and colors.
We also learned how to say "FANTASTIQUE!" when things are going great and we really like something.
We are learning how to introduce a friend in French, for example, "il s'appelle" for a boy
and "elle s'appelle" for a girl.
We practice pointing to the right person while saying "je" "tu" "il" "elle" --
"je" (point to yourself); "tu" (point to someone else); "il" (point to a boy); "elle" (point to a girl).
We have reviewed how to express our likes and dislikes, by saying "j'aime" when we like something, and "je n'aime pas" when we don't like something.
Pim and Curious George are frequent guests in our classroom, especially Curious George, who loves working with numbers! We are learning new numbers this year, from 11 to 20, and George likes to play number games with us. The children are encouraged to practice those higher numbers as they ride in the car or take walks -- notice house numbers, bus numbers, and see if you can remember the French word for them!
Bon weekend!
